At Winter and Spring, we love to find other small UK businesses to supply our range of wonderful gifts. We think that's what makes our unique and thoughtful gift boxes so special. In this post we had a chat to Shona Lily from Petite Daisy Designs who creates beautiful and unique clay polymer jewellery. We loved chatting to her and understanding more about her unique small business.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I'm Shona Lily and I am 28 years old. I grew up in North London but I currently live in beautiful Surrey with my partner and our gorgeous daughter, Daisy. Oh, and our bunny, Martin (don’t ask haha).

How long have you been creating your beautiful jewellery?

Creating has always been a passion of mine but truth be told I never knew what to create. I just knew I had a burning desire to create things which made other people happy. Then, after being made redundant in March 2020 due to Covid, Petite Daisy Designs was born! I now get to create the things I wish existed.

Why did you decide to start Petite Daisy Designs?

Being made redundant hit me pretty hard and out of the blue. But I am no good at sitting around doing nothing, so I knew that the time was now to finally fulfil my dreams of creating for a living. I truly believe that jewellery and accessories have the unique ability to transform any outfit. Your style is unique to you and a nonverbal communication of who you are. I love being able to create pieces which are an extension of my customers personality

What is your favourite product in your range?

That is such a tricky question! I absolutely adore all my pieces and I put so much time, care and detail into each piece. I think if I had to choose then my favourite would be the polka dot love hearts because they are just adorable!

What’s your favourite part of your making process?

My favourite part of the process is assembling all of the pieces and components of the earrings and seeing an idea that I had in my head come to life before my very eyes. Seeing the final product fills me with such pride.

Where do you get your inspiration from for your designs?

My inspiration comes from literally everywhere. I have some fashion books and magazines where I will see a pattern or colour combination that I like and go from there! Many of my pieces have also been inspired from totally random places, like my daughter’s jumper or my partner's socks! A lot of other inspiration also comes from nature like marble and crystals.

What is your favourite part of owning your own business?

The feeling of pride and accomplishment when someone messages just to say how much they love your products. I still cannot believe that there are countless people out there wearing jewellery and accessories that I have made by hand. It’s such an amazing feeling.

What challenges have you come up against as an entrepreneur?

I think as new entrepreneurs, we can be our own worst enemies. We feel the need to constantly work night and day, without rest and to push ourselves to the point of burnout to make our businesses thrive. I am guilty of doing just this and this is one thing I will be changing this year. I will be taking regular breaks to make sure I am taking care of my mental health.

2020 and 2021 has been tough for many of us, have you used any techniques to manage your wellbeing (e.g. Positive Affirmations, Journalling etc)?

Absolutely! This year has been unlike any year any of us has experienced before. I am constantly saying out loud positive affirmations and reminding myself of how far I’ve come. I practice mindfulness and meditation regularly, as well as manifesting with the universe. Trust in the process and keep your vibrations high!

What does 2021 hold for Petite Daisy Designs?

Lots of exciting things are coming! I have fallen in love with resin, so I have some new resin pieces coming out soon. I was also featured in Mollie Makes magazine at the end of January. All very exciting and I could not be more grateful or thankful to be doing what I love.
